I have always known the benefits of writing. But because I didn’t take the time to write them down, they are still unorganized in my head. And this is what writing is really about. Whether you want to have a better life, financial freedom, or feel the need to be creative, you have to start writing. It is a fundamental skill, and I cannot emphasize enough how important it is. It is the most powerful weapon you can provide someone with because it teaches them how to think. So finally, I have decided to start this blog, and if you are thinking about starting one or journaling daily, or writing an essay, I highly recommend you to do so. Writing regularly really empowering, and this is why:
Writing makes you a better critical thinker
Life is all about bringing order into a complex world. So more structured vision means a better future. Writing helps you organize your thoughts so you can get better at analyzing situations and making decisions.
“Thinking makes you act effectively in the world. Thinking makes you win the battles you undertake and those could be battles for good things. If you can think and speak and write you are absolutely deadly nothing can get in your way so that’s why you learn to write”Jordan B. Peterson
Writing helps you express yourself better so that others understand
Expressing an idea so that others understand it is not an easy task. First, you have to find the right words and express them in a structured manner while considering how others might perceive or misunderstand them. So writing them down is an opportunity for you to rephrase them. With that, you might discover flaws in your logic and refine it so you can have a better evidence-based argumentation.
Another point is that we don’t really know if we are expressing our feelings the right way. We often have feelings that we deny ourselves, and writing gives us access to those feelings. So whether you are writing for yourself or others, it can only be beneficial to understand and express those feelings.
“When people don’t have an outlet for their feelings it can have a really negative impact on them but making your emotions tangible through expressing them creatively can empower people to confront and contain otherwise abstract or daunting feelings.”
It helps preserve and memorize your ideas.
If you have an idea, you have to write it down. Otherwise, you are taking the risk of forgetting it. We are all human, and we are fallible. Writing is repetition, in a way. It’s taking the ideas from your head and putting them down. By doing this, you exercise your brain, creating new neural pathways that reinforce old ones to improve this particular knowledge. It’s like going to the gym but for your brain. There is also good biological evidence that putting yourself in a new situation helps new genes code for new proteins and build new neural and nervous system structures.
Writing helps with storytelling which is an important skill
Humans have always used storytelling to forge connections among people and ideas. Brands use it to empower their products. It is an important tool for leaders to influence, teach, and inspire. But, more than just communication, it creates bonds and connections. Each of us has a story to tell, and with writing, you can make it come alive. You will refine your style and techniques, and at the end of the day, you will be able to capture and share emotions.
The world is an incredibly complicated place. Therefore you need to use the tools you have to get higher reasoning skills. Understanding yourself and others is a hard task, and with the help of writing, you can achieve a higher sense of order. So make writing a part of your life and after a while, reflect on it. Write to think, to inspire, to teach, and to be happier.
